Today I went hiking.
Well, it wasn’t just any hike. It was a 4.5 hour hike with lots of ups and downs. We were searching for waterfalls.
As I was climbing and being present with the pain in my lower back and my legs which were feeling like jello, hoping they would continue to hold me up instead of crumble, I couldn’t help but think that nature has so much to teach us.
When we are in nature, we don’t question the ups and the downs.
We know that when there is an up, there will have to be a down. When there is a down, there will have to be an up.
We don’t worry about it, we just know that that is the way the terrain goes. We don’t fight against it, we take it for what it is.
Life is much the same way.
There are always ups and downs. That is just the way life goes. So why have we not learned how to roll with it? Why do we worry about knowing exactly when the ups and downs will come? Why do we try to control them?
It is when we start to accept that they occur, when we let go enough so that we can learn to enjoy the peaks and the valleys and the lessons they teach, when we start to let go of the fear of the unknown and revel in the excitement of the anticipation of where life will lead can we start to experience the full joys life has to offer.
No one said it would or will be easy.
But the more we go within and start to notice these things the easier life becomes. We don’t have to always enjoy it but the more we live in the moment and the anticipation of the goodness that comes next, the more we can live our life of bliss.
